The Role of a Review Officer

When dealing with objections or complaints, Review Officers:

  • enforce the Pay Equity Act;
  • help you understand the Act;
  • provide information;
  • investigate complaints or objections;
  • help all parties see options and look for solutions.

The Investigative Process

The Review Officer (RO) calls the applicant for details about the application. The RO and the applicant discuss how to proceed, and what can or needs to be done.

If the complaint is confidential, the Officer must tell the employer that a confidential complaint has been made. In some cases, an employer may have reason to identify a person as the complainant, even though the Review Officer has not identified them. The Officer would discuss all of this with an applicant before contacting the employer.

Deadlines

There is no timeframe for resolving pay equity complaints or objections. It depends on how complicated the case is, the number of issues, and the cooperation of those involved. When an employee complains of being penalized, threatened or harassed because of pay equity, his or her complaint is handled immediately by the Commission.
