Job Evaluation
This section on job evaluation gives an overview of
how to assign value (points) to male
and female job classes.
Introducing job evaluation systems
In order to compare the skill, effort, responsibility
and working conditions of job classes, employers and bargaining agents
usually use a job evaluation system.
A job evaluation system will let you place a value
on job classes in your workplace. When there's a union, the selection
of a system must be negotiated between the employer and the bargaining
agent.
Choosing a system
Organizations can use their own system, one developed
by a consultant, or adapt a system like the one available from the Pay
Equity Commission. The Commission does not endorse the use of any particular
system.
In this part of the case study, you will find information on:
- aspects of work;
- factor and subfactor definitions;
- creating a simple weighting formula;
- job information; and
- evaluating jobs.
