The Law

Requirements for STC

The Pay Equity Act was amended, effective July 1, 1993. It introduced Proportional Value (PV) as another method to compare job classes. This method was used when female job classes did not find male comparators after applying the Job-to-Job method.

The Space Toy Co. was required to use PV to provide pay equity for the following three female jobs, unmatched under the Job-to-Job method:

  • Customer Service Clerk
  • Accounting Clerk
  • Receptionist/Typist

Although these jobs were given salary increases in 1992, these were not pay equity adjustments.

Deadline

The Act required STC to implement the PV method according to a schedule and post an amended pay equity plan by January 1, 1994. Adjustments, if any, were to begin by the posting date, retroactive to January 1, 1993. The PV implementation schedule is shown on the next page.
