NOTE 2:
Public Sector Employers


Public sector employers

Public sector employers are all those employers identified in the Schedule and Appendix of the Pay Equity Act. If an employer is not public sector under the Act, they are in the private sector.

These include:

  • the Ontario government

  • municipalities

  • school boards

  • hospitals

  • corporations established by any of the above

  • organizations that are listed in the Appendix as regulated by the government

If after reviewing the schedule and appendix you are still unsure whether you are public or private sector, you should contact us, or you may need to consult your lawyer.

The Pay Equity Commission offers free services to guide employers through the pay equity process.
